'This phenomenon [the Miracle of the Sun], which was not registered in any astronomical observatory — a fact which shows that it was not natural — was seen by persons of every class and grade of society, by believers and incredulous, by journalists representing the principal Portuguese newspapers, and even by persons miles away.
