The Miraculous Powers of Notre-Dame de Boulogne

Within the 19th c., Basilica of Notre-Dame de Boulogne [reconstructed after the original Church dedicated to Her from 1090, which Pius V formally declared a Cathedral, was demolished in stages during the French Revolution] is housed the reliquary of the Holy Blood, a masterpiece of 14th c., goldsmithing, attributed to the precious metalsmith, Guillaume Julien. It is the most prestigious work in the Basilica's collection. Created to hold a very important relic [a cloth with the Blood of Christ sent from Jerusalem by the Crusader Godfrey of Bouillon in 1100], it was perhaps gifted by Philip IV of France on the occasion of his daughter's marriage to King Edward II of England, celebrated at Boulogne's Notre-Dame Cathedral in 1308.

Statue of renowned Catholic military leader of the First Crusade Godfrey of Bouillon (1060 -1100 A.D.),

located at The Place Royale in Brussels - directly in front of the Saint-Jacques-sur-Coudenberg Church.

Godfrey, a French nobleman, was born in the city graced by Our Lady [Boulogne-sur-mer], to St. Ida. He promptly followed Pope Urban II’s urgent call for a Crusade to reclaim the Holy Land from the invader infidel Mohammedans. Before heading for the First Crusade, Godfrey prayed in the city of his birth, before Notre-Dame de Boulogne, asking for her powerful intercession/protection during the forthcoming crusading campaign battle(s).

Following his military success of the capturing of Jerusalem, occurring on July 15, 1099, Godfrey, the Duke and Advocate of the Holy Sepulchre [note: in deep humility, he refused to be called the King of Jerusalem, in deference to Our Blessed Lord], attributed his victory and symbolically offered the Crown of Jerusalem to ‘Our Lady of Molanus’ and ‘Our Lady of the Sea at Boulogne’.

“I choose your city as a place of grace.”

Commandeered by Angels, the Miraculous Statue of Our Lady Arrives in Boulogne!

In 633 A.D., in the city of Boulogne-sur-mer, part of the Kingdom of France, some villagers at the seashore witnessed a mysterious boat or ship, come into the *harbor of BoulogneIt finally came to rest in the estuary of the Liane River, seemingly of its own accord. At first glance no one was seen and on climbing aboard, a man confirmed that the vessel was empty of people and without rudder, oars or sails. The ship, however, bore a luminous statue of the Virgin and Child. On bringing the statue on land a voice was heard saying, “I choose your city as a place of grace.”

*At the same time the vessel came into the harbor of Boulogne, the Holy Virgin appeared to several faithful in a chapel on the heights of the city, announcing the arrival of the boat in the port and asking them to install the statue in the chapel, so that it could be honored. They gratefully complied with Her request.

 Boulogne-sur-mer became one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Catholic Europe;

 fourteen kings of France, five kings of England and many Saints came there on pilgrimage.

Miraculous prodigies soon followed and pilgrims from all over Christendom, which included many Kings and Saintswould travel to venerate Our Lady at Boulogne-sur-mer, where eventually a renowned Cathedral (which was most tragically sacked by French revolutionaries) and then a beautiful Basilica was later to be built, from the generous alms of the pious patrons of *Notre-Dame de Boulogne.

*NoteTCW will be adding additional posts in this sub-section, of the very important place/role Our Lady of Boulogne (also known under the titles of: Our Lady Star of the Sea and Our Lady of the Grand Return) has had in the History of the Catholic Church, and the Eldest Daughter of the Church [France].  TCW also wants to impress on its readers, the imperative need todayof invoking the miraculous intercession of Notre-Dame de Boulogne, to end this, the worst persecution ever, of the True Papacy (which is now underground)-ED

My family and I were watching a wind burst during Hurricane Ian today - and we all saw a gigantic pine tree fall down right in front of our house - onto the driveway. I then lit our blessed candle... we said prayers. All are safe... no property damage.
